Race for the stars

 G.Y. 00 – 16 (T.Y. 2225-2241)

In 2225 A.D., after many years of designing, construction and testing, the TAS Pioneer & TAS Enterprise first eased out of their orbital docking bays and began their short trip to the point where it would be distant enough from the planetary gravitational field to safely fire the Hyperdrive engine, which would propel it to the nearby stars.

Many, many miles below, in the Alliance capital of Washington D.C., and in the other smaller cities and towns of Earth, citizens crowded around the giant view screens showing the historic moment in full 2-dimensional splendour (trimensional holographic viewing being in a relatively nascent stage, it was an expensive technology, and thus restricted to the most important Government buildings, science labs and military installations…including the orbital shipyards).

In 2226, the TAS Explorer reached the Cygni system and found Cygni II to be a Class 10 planet, habitable by current Alliance technological standards. A few months later, the crew of the TAS Pioneer set up the first base camp and within a couple of years, the Cygni II colony was in full operation.

As more and more colony ships and scout ships (these were much smaller than the TAS Enterprise and had less extensive sensors, but were far cheaper to produce) were built and dispatched and as more planets were colonised, the Alliance came into contact with several alien races – the Scottlingas, the Snathi, the Torians, the Arceans, the Altairians, the Yor, the Akilians, the Carinoids and the Dark Yor. Some were miniscule civilizations, just entering the Space Age, while some were old and experienced interstellar races.

Diplomatic relations were initially set up with Ultrawave (a recently discovered technology that allowed bases to keep in contact with ships, even at huge distances andwhile in hyperspace) audiences…and later led to the setting up of trade routes. Within a decade, Alliance trade ships were plying their way along interstellar routes and massive alien trading ships filled the orbit of Earth and some other major planets.

Every 4 years the Galactic Council, consisting of the major races in the galaxy (in which the Alliance was kindly invited due to its gift of Hyperdrive, but not given much importance) met to discuss matters of galactic significance, like setting up a Trade Federation to protect trade ships, organizing an inter-galactic Olympics, etc.

Also, during this period, many more ruins of ancient civilizations were found, whether on the surface of myriad planets, or in debris fields scattered in space.

By end-2241, the Terran Alliance controlled a total of 26 planets and was a young, but rising power in the galaxy.
